July 2021 - Gypsy Stool
Here's the lovely Gypsy Stool. This stool was originally a rather boring pale blue kind of brocade - I bought it from a junk shop in Dunedin and have been getting round to recovering it for ages. I thought I would try out the painted fabric effect on it as I didn't have much to lose if it went wrong. I used ordinary house paint watered down (a lot) and then I waxed it. It ends up like leather(ish). It's not crispy or hard and the paint does not come off when you touch it or sit on it - quite remarkable really.
It actually turned out rather well. I recovered the underside in shocking pink which is a nice surprise. I think I'll do it again on a more ambitious project - I'm thinking a big buttoned chair.
I'm going to sell it but thought you might all like to see it first - or you can buy it if you want to.
