Mama Morris

Introducing Mama Morris – she’s gorgeous - wide and solid. These Morris chairs were an early type of reclining chair manufactured in UK by Morris and Company about 150 years ago.  The frame is oak and has been restored and resprayed with a heat-resistant finish. The high back and wide un-upholstered arms make these chairs extremely comfortable and really good for nursing mothers. I was thinking (fleetingly) of sending her up to Jacinda and Clarke for the Prime Miniature but I’m sure if you can run the country you can also figure out how to get your own chairs without any help from the widows of Foxton. Anyway, there are more deserving recipients of this lovely chair.

The bottoms of the cushions in the contrasting fabric make her reversible and a little bit mixy and matchy – not too much though, we don’t want to get too cute do we?

I haven’t done all that much upholstery lately but I’ve finally managed to finish the last room in my house. It’s only taken me eight years to renovate this little foxhole – a bit like the epic 28 years it took me to get a BA. But, as with the BA, it all turned out pretty well and probably the cheapest renno known to man – well woman actually. Most of it I have done myself and my skills are fairly rudimentary in the hammering and sawing department. I just make up for it by painting everything to look a bit distressed and you don’t notice my terrible carpentry.

I’ve got a few more chairs in my garage waiting for attention to show you later but it’s so freezing in there, it’s hard to be motivated – bring on summer.

PS Sorry you can’t buy Mama Morris – someone already did
